Facade insulation = Higher heating costs?
Lobbyists, ... promise large energy savings through facade insulation.
In reality, higher heating costs often apparently occur (Germany) - due to expensive facade insulation.
The programme Könnes fights back: façade insulation - the myth of saving energy shows why this is the case.
This programme should be mandatory viewing for everyone in politics and energy consultancy. Do they only want your best interests? Your money?
The programme mentions, among other things, the study eb-8/1985 from the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics - Effective thermal protection of brick exterior wall constructions - 3rd research section mentioned („Effect of the radiation absorption of exterior wall surfaces and night setback of indoor air temperatures on transmission heat loss and heating energy consumption“).
Unfortunately it was not published by the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics, but it can be found on the internet.
You can find a very good article and explanations about the aforementioned study here:

In the Plusminus programme Energetic renovation: Are the measures really worthwhile? (26.07.2023) the database of co2online.de and the Development of weather-adjusted heating energy consumption from 2002 to 2021 are mentioned ("residential building database with over two million records").
Notable is the declining heating energy consumption from 2002 to 2010. After that it stagnates.
This is attributed, among other things, to "Insufficient renovations are being carried out and the renovations are not effective enough to achieve the climate targets."
If one takes the results of the eb-8/1985 study by the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics into account, many citizens can imagine the reason why many expensive energy renovations are not effective.
Were all subsequently carried out expensive energy measures "money down the drain"?
Your money isn't gone? It just ended up with someone else?
Jutta Hartmann from the German Tenants' Association:
"As a rule, in the past there was a problem that modernizations in the existing building stock did not lead to energy savings - but did lead to rent increases."
In our Blog article about the German energy performance certificate for buildings of 31.10.2023 we show why more and more citizens consider this certificate worthless.
The determined energy efficiency classes are too often far from reality.
Using it as a basis for recommendations regarding energy renovations can often lead to ineffective and costly measures.
Individual Renovation Roadmap for Residential Buildings (iSFP) = Shoddy work?
Some customers feel ripped off, as the Plusminus programme of 21.06.2023 (Das Erste) "Heating law: a rip-off in energy consulting" illustrates well.
As with many (expensive) decisions in life, you should check the facts yourself on this topic and then decide.
A property in Germany is in many regions not a good long-term investment. Significant losses in value are possible.
